At Creighton Hotel · Clones, Co. Monaghan
The McCarville Family Reunion 2026 brings together descendants of the McCarville family for a three-day gathering in Clones, organised by the McCarville Family Association. Anyone with McCarville ancestors is welcome, whether travelling from Ireland or overseas. The weekend runs from Friday, 31 July to Sunday, 2 August 2026, based at the Creighton Hotel, and combines a formal reunion dinner with a memorial mass and a guided walk around historic Clones. It is the kind of diaspora gathering increasingly common in Irish border towns, built around genealogy and a shared surname rather than a public festival.
The weekend opens on Friday, 31 July at 7pm with a short talk on the history of the family association, followed by a buffet with traditional music and singing. Saturday, 1 August brings the main event, a formal reunion dinner at 7pm preceded by a short Annual General Meeting of the association, with music and entertainment through the evening. The final day, Sunday, 2 August, is quieter: a memorial mass at 11.30am honouring McCarville ancestors, followed by a light lunch, and then a guided walking tour of historic Clones at 2pm taking in the town’s landmarks. Prices are set per day rather than for the whole weekend, so people can join for one event or all three depending on how much of the weekend they can make. Registration is required in advance by email.
Clones is in the south-west of County Monaghan, close to the border with Fermanagh, on the N54. The Creighton Hotel is in the town centre. On-street parking is available around Clones, and the town is served by local bus routes connecting to Monaghan town and Enniskillen.
The Sunday walking tour covers the town’s history directly, but Clones also has its Round Tower and the wider Ulster Canal to explore beyond the reunion weekend itself. There is more to see in Clones and across Co. Monaghan.
