At Castleblayney Town Centre · Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan
Muckno Mania is one of Monaghan’s most long-running community festivals, bringing thousands of people into Castleblayney each summer since it started as a single day out in August 1999. The 2026 edition runs over three days, 10 to 12 July, with a Spanish fiesta theme - “Fiesta not Siesta!” - that sees the whole town decorated in red, yellow, and flamenco colours. It is free to attend, run entirely on a not-for-profit basis, and organised by the Castleblayney town regeneration committee. Families, couples, and anyone who wants a proper festival weekend in the Irish midlands will find plenty to fill three days.
The 2026 programme spreads across the town centre over the full weekend. Friday evening kicks things off with a Street Carnival on Main Street from 7pm to 10pm, headlined by the Fanzini Brothers’ show “Risky Business” - a 40-minute outdoor circus comedy featuring physical stunts, tiny bicycles, audience interaction, and escalating nonsense. It plays to all ages and is the kind of act that draws a crowd in any weather.
Saturday and Sunday broaden out into the full fiesta experience. The full programme was not yet published at the time of writing, but confirmed elements include flamenco dance performances, authentic Spanish food stalls, a Teddy Bears Fiesta Picnic, an old-school sports day, live music in local pubs on Saturday night, and family games on Sunday. The weekend closes with a fireworks display over Lough Muckno - the large lake that sits right beside the town centre and gives the festival its name.
Local businesses and residents are encouraged to decorate shopfronts and homes in Spanish colours, which gives the whole town a festive feel that goes well beyond the ticketed events. Follow the festival on Facebook or check the Linktree at linktr.ee/mucknomania for the full programme when it is released. The festival won the Best Tourism Event Award at the 2026 Anglo-Celt Monaghan Business and Tourism Awards.
