Seussical Jr. - Belvoir Players Studio Theatre Belfast

At Belvoir Players Studio Theatre · 94 Belvoir Drive, Belfast, Co. Antrim

Belvoir Players Studio Theatre Belfast

Seussical Jr. is a musical that packs an awful lot of Dr. Seuss into one colourful evening - or afternoon. It brings together Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and the tiny Whos of Whoville into a single fast-moving story about loyalty, friendship and doing the right thing even when nobody believes you. Belvoir Players Theatre Academy is putting it on at their Studio Theatre in south Belfast over three performances at the end of July and into August 2026. If you have children who know their Seuss, or who have never encountered him at all, this is an easy, enjoyable way into live theatre.

What to expect

The production is staged by East Broadway Theatre Company, with direction from Katie-Rose Spence, musical direction from Alex McKelvey, and choreography from Amy Smith. The story follows Horton as he discovers a speck of dust sheltering an entire civilisation of Whos, and must protect them while also sitting on a mysterious egg - both storylines running in parallel with the Cat in the Hat weaving them together. Themes of community and perseverance run through it, but the show keeps things light and funny, with big ensemble numbers and plenty of movement. The Belvoir Studio seats up to 200 people and uses flexible staging, so there are no bad seats - the black-box format means the performers are close, which works well for younger audiences. There are three performances in total: Friday 31 July at 7:30pm, Saturday 1 August at 2:30pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday 2 August at 2:30pm.

Getting there

The Belvoir Players Studio Theatre sits on Belvoir Drive in the Belvoir estate on the south side of Belfast, about four kilometres from the city centre. By car it is straightforward - the estate is well signposted from the main roads out of the city, and the theatre has free on-site parking at the front and side of the building. By public transport, several Metro bus routes serve the Belvoir area from Belfast city centre; check Translink’s journey planner for the most direct option from where you are staying. A taxi or rideshare from the city centre takes around ten minutes.

While you’re in Belfast

Belfast rewards an extra hour of wandering before or after the show - the Titanic Quarter, the Cathedral Quarter’s laneways, and the Botanic Gardens are all within easy reach of the city centre. There is more to see in Belfast and across Co. Antrim.
