At Síolta Chroí · Aghacloghan, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan
Síolta Chroí, an agroecology education centre outside Carrickmacross, opens its demonstration farm to the public on Saturday, 1 August 2026 from 2pm to 4pm. The free event is aimed at anyone curious about regenerative farming and biodiversity, whether they manage a smallholding, a garden, or just want to see what nature-friendly land management looks like in practice on a working County Monaghan site.
A guided walking tour of the Environmental Demonstration Centre led by Síolta Chroí staff, covering practical, hands-on examples of habitat creation, native tree and hedge planting, soil care and other nature-based approaches that support pollinators and wider wildlife. The tour is pitched at a general audience rather than specialists, with an emphasis on simple, achievable actions that visitors can apply in their own gardens or on their own land, not just on a large farm. Síolta Chroí runs a small number of these open days across the year rather than on a fixed weekly or monthly slot, so this August date follows an earlier open day held in May 2026. The site sits just over an hour from both Dublin and Belfast, which has made it a draw for visitors from outside the county too, and numbers are kept manageable so the tour stays hands-on.
Síolta Chroí is at Aghacloghan outside Carrickmacross, reached by car from the town. There is no public transport directly to the site, so a lift or taxi from Carrickmacross is the practical option.
Carrickmacross is the nearest town to Síolta Chroí and a good base before or after the tour, known for its lace-making tradition and Patrick Kavanagh connections. There is more to see in Carrickmacross and across Co. Monaghan.
