At Ardara Distillery, Sliabh Liag Distillers · The Show Field, Woodhill, Ardara, Co. Donegal, F94 EH7X
Sliabh Liag Distillers runs guided tours of its Ardara distillery, walking visitors through what the distillery describes as Donegal’s immense distilling heritage and the working production floor where its maritime gin and whiskey are made. A guide takes each group through the site, explaining the production process and pointing out the equipment in use at each stage, with staff on hand throughout to answer questions.
Two ticket options are available. The tour-only ticket, €15, covers the guided walkthrough without tastings, which suits anyone travelling with children or simply curious about the process. The full tour, €25, adds a tasting of the distillery’s gin and whiskies at the end, and is the better option for anyone who actually wants to taste what they have just watched being made. Children aged 8 to 18 go free of charge, but under-8s are not permitted on the tour for safety reasons around the production equipment; guide dogs are the only animals allowed on site.
Tours depart four times a day, at 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 5pm, with a slightly shorter Sunday schedule of 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. Booking ahead through the distillery’s website is recommended, particularly for groups, though the visitor centre can also be reached by phone directly.
Ardara is on the N56 coastal road in southwest Donegal, roughly 50km from Letterkenny and about 25km from the Sliabh Liag cliffs. The distillery is on the Show Field on Woodhill, on the edge of the village, with on-site parking for visitors arriving by car.
