Irish Whiskey Museum Whiskey Cocktail Masterclass

About This Tour

The Irish Whiskey Museum’s Cocktail Masterclass runs for about 1 hour 50 minutes and it’s exactly what it sounds like: you arrive to a welcome drink, spend the session with expert mixologists learning to make three Irish whiskey cocktails, and leave with a complimentary whiskey glass and a good story.

It’s hands-on throughout. The mixologists walk you through each recipe, but you’re doing the work yourself, which is both more satisfying and considerably more entertaining than watching someone else do it. There’s a naturally competitive edge to these sessions when the group gets into it, and the mixologists are well used to facilitating that.

You don’t need to be a whiskey drinker going in. The session works just as well if you’re curious about cocktails generally and happen to be in Dublin. That said, if you are a whiskey fan, you’ll leave with a much better sense of what Irish whiskey can do in a glass beyond being poured neat.

Groups are kept to a maximum of 15 people, which is small enough to feel personal.

Local Tips

Eat something before you go. Food isn’t included, and you’ll be making and tasting three cocktails over the course of the session. The Irish Whiskey Museum is surrounded by good spots to grab a meal beforehand, from the cafes along Grafton Street to the pubs just off St. Stephen’s Green. Going in on an empty stomach is a rookie mistake, especially if you’re planning to explore the rest of Dublin afterwards.

The welcome drink sets the pace, so don’t gulp it. You arrive, you’re handed a drink, and the session hasn’t technically started yet. Use the welcome drink to settle in, meet the other people in your group, and get comfortable with the space. The mixologists are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed from the first minute.

The complimentary whiskey glass travels well. It’s sturdy enough to pack in hold luggage, particularly wrapped in a jumper or stuffed into a shoe. It’s a decent-sized glass and a genuine keepsake from the session, not a flimsy promotional item.

With a maximum of 15 people, this is a genuinely small group. You’ll get real attention from the mixologists, which means if there’s a specific technique or ingredient you’re curious about, just ask. The session format has enough flexibility to go a bit deeper if the group is interested.

The Irish Whiskey Museum is an easy walk from most central Dublin hotels. Meeting at reception means you’re arriving to a clear point and not wandering around trying to find a back entrance. The museum is well signed and the staff at the front desk will direct you to the masterclass area.
