About This Tour

This private tour covers the north and northwest of Ireland over anywhere from one day to a full week - the shape of it depends entirely on your interests and how much time you have. The itinerary isn’t fixed; destinations are suggested around what you actually want to see and how you like to travel.

Donegal sits at the heart of what’s on offer. It’s a county with a beach for every day of the year, mountains, national parks, islands, and walking routes ranging from easy coastal paths to serious hill terrain. Northern Ireland rounds things out, with dramatic landscape and Belfast city - a place with a strong reputation as a shopping destination alongside its history and culture.

The vehicle has wifi on board and air conditioning throughout, so the journey itself is comfortable whatever the weather outside.

Local Tips

Talk to your driver before you go. Because the itinerary is built around your interests, it’s worth having a proper conversation at booking time - or at least before you set off - about what you actually want from the trip. If you want wild coastline and empty beaches, the Donegal itinerary looks very different from one built around history, heritage sites, and city time in Belfast.

Donegal rewards slow travel. This is one of the least-visited counties in Ireland relative to its size, which means you can find places that feel genuinely off the beaten track even in summer. Malin Head, the Slieve League cliffs, the Ards Peninsula in Donegal Bay - none of these are secret, but they don’t have the queue problems of better-known spots further south.

Build in flexibility for the weather. Ireland’s northwest gets more rain than most of the country, and conditions can change fast, especially in the mountains and on exposed coastal roads. A flexible itinerary is genuinely useful here - if one day is poor for a planned outdoor route, your driver can suggest alternatives.

Belfast is more than one afternoon’s worth of city. If Belfast is on your route, try to allow at least a full day. The Titanic Quarter has good museums, the Cathedral Quarter has food and music, and the murals on the Falls and Shankill Roads are best understood with some context rather than a quick drive-by.

The northwest is long driving distances. Donegal is Ireland’s fourth-largest county by area, and roads can be narrow and slow. What looks like a short journey on a map can take considerably longer in reality. Your driver will know this, but it’s worth keeping in mind when you’re planning what you want to fit in each day.
