Landing at Cork Airport and heading straight for Killarney is one of the classic ways to start a trip to the southwest. The drive is around an hour and a half through some lovely County Cork countryside, and doing it in a private vehicle with your own group means you arrive in Killarney on your own terms, not crammed into a shared shuttle with strangers after a long flight.
Your driver will be waiting at arrivals, just through the terminal security door, holding a card with your name. Bottled water, fuel surcharge, and parking fees are all included. Cork Airport is a compact and easy airport to navigate, which is part of its charm compared to larger Irish hubs. The drive to Killarney takes you through some of County Cork’s finest scenery, particularly once you clear the outskirts of Cork city and head south and west. The N22 is the main route and the road is good. If your driver is open to a short detour, the approach through Macroom gives a nice sense of the Cork landscape, though the direct route through Ballyvourney is also pleasant.
Killarney itself is one of Ireland’s most visited towns, and for good reason - it sits right at the gateway to Killarney National Park, with the lakes and the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks mountains close at hand. Arriving by private transfer means you can head straight to your hotel and start planning your first walk or drive around the Ring of Kerry without the faff of public transport connections.
