Dublin To Portmagee County Kerry Private Car Transfer

About

Your chauffeur will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a name card, or at your Dublin City address - whichever suits you better. They track your flight electronically and time the pick-up accordingly, and you get one hour of complimentary airport waiting time built in so there’s no rush on your side.

The transfer runs in a Mercedes Benz E220 Executive Class, which comfortably takes up to 3 passengers with luggage (2 standard 20 kg suitcases plus 2 small cases). The vehicle and chauffeur are fully licensed and insured under the Irish Government Transport Authority.

Portmagee is the main departure point for the boat crossings to Skellig Michael - the UNESCO World Heritage island where early Christian monks built a remarkable monastic settlement on a rocky outcrop 12 kilometres off the Kerry coast. If that’s why you’re heading down, your driver can talk you through the timing and what to expect on arrival.

Local Tips

Skellig Michael boat trips must be booked well in advance. The island is only accessible by licensed boat operators out of Portmagee, Ballinskelligs, and Derrynane, and demand is high from April through October. If a Skellig crossing is the reason for this trip, sort the boat booking before you finalise travel dates rather than after.

Portmagee village is small but well set up for an overnight stay. The Channel Bar on the waterfront is a reliable local pub with food, and it looks directly across to Valentia Island. The bridge to Valentia is just a short drive from the village and the island makes a good half-day loop if you’re spending more than one night in the area.

The Kerry Cliffs near Portmagee are often overlooked in favour of the Skellig view. They’re a short drive from the village and sit at around 300 metres above sea level, giving you one of the better vantage points on the Skellig rocks without needing to board a boat. Worth the detour if the Skellig crossing is weather-cancelled or already booked out.

The Skellig Ring road is one of the quieter drives on the Wild Atlantic Way. It loops from Portmagee around the southern edge of the Iveragh Peninsula through Ballinskelligs and back - narrow in places, so take it slowly, but the coastal scenery along that stretch is some of the best in Kerry.
