Dublin Cruise Ship Port To Newgrange Private Shore Full Day Excursion Tour

About

Your professional private chauffeur meets you at Dublin Cruise Ship Port and takes you out to Newgrange in a spacious, air-conditioned Mercedes Benz V Class MPV. Newgrange is one of Ireland’s most remarkable ancient sites - a passage tomb older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids - and getting there in a private vehicle means you travel on your own schedule with plenty of room for your group.

The vehicle and chauffeur are fully licensed and insured under the Irish Government Transport Authority.

Local Tips

Newgrange is managed by the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre, and all access to the passage tomb is by guided tour from there. Entrance fees are not included in this transfer, so book your Newgrange tour slots in advance - they sell out, particularly in summer and around the winter solstice. The visitor centre and car park are on the south side of the River Boyne; a shuttle bus takes you across to the tomb itself.

Timing is everything on a shore excursion. Agree a return window with your chauffeur before you leave the vehicle, and build in a buffer - the visitor centre queues can run longer than the tour-slot booking implies, and Newgrange is roughly an hour from Dublin port on the M1 and M2.

The passage tomb itself is around 5,200 years old - about 500 years older than the Great Pyramid at Giza. The roof-box above the entrance is aligned to the winter solstice sunrise, when light fills the inner chamber for seventeen minutes. The guided tour inside runs for about 25 minutes and includes a demonstration of the solstice effect with artificial light. The interior is narrow and low-ceilinged; the outer kerb and decorated entrance stone are fully accessible from outside.

If time allows on the return, the M1 passes through the broader Boyne Valley, which contains several other megalithic sites including Knowth and Dowth. Your chauffeur can advise on timing, but the visitor centre shuttle also serves Knowth if you want to extend the visit within the same booking.
