Local Tips

The drive from Dublin Airport to Chester Beatty takes around an hour. You’ll head south through the city, picking up the N11 toward Wicklow. Traffic through the Merrion Road and Stillorgan areas can be slow in the morning rush, so if your flight lands between 7am and 9am, add a little extra time mentally. Afternoons and evenings are generally smoother.

Chester Beatty sits in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. The surrounding area is quiet and rural - very different from the city you’ve just passed through. There isn’t a great deal on the doorstep in terms of shops or restaurants, so it’s worth picking up anything you need in a town like Bray or Greystones on the way through.

Your luggage will be in the car with you. The E220 carries 2 standard 20 kg suitcases plus 2 smaller cases - if you’re travelling with more than that, it’s worth letting the operator know in advance so they can arrange appropriate transport.

Wicklow town is close by if you want to explore. The county town is about 20 minutes south and has a good harbour, the ruins of a Black Castle on the headland, and a handful of cafes and restaurants worth stopping into before or after your stay.
