Your chauffeur will be waiting in the arrivals hall with your name card when you land. Flights are tracked electronically so the timing is adjusted around your actual arrival, and you get a full hour of complimentary waiting time - long enough to cover most delays without any additional cost.
The MPV is the right choice for larger groups or families travelling with plenty of luggage. You’ll travel in a Mercedes MPV or Chrysler Voyager Executive Class - spacious, air-conditioned, and fully licensed and insured in line with the Irish Government Transport Authority. The vehicle fits up to 6 passengers with luggage.
Downings sits on the Rosguill Peninsula in north Donegal, one of the more remote and genuinely beautiful corners of Ireland. The three-hour drive from Dublin gets you there without the hassle of coordinating multiple cars or trying to squeeze into a hire vehicle that’s too small.
Downings is a small fishing village on the Atlantic Drive, one of the most scenic coastal routes in Donegal. The village has a beach, a handful of pubs, and a working pier - it’s genuinely quiet outside of summer, which is part of the appeal. July and August bring more visitors, but it never gets overwhelmed in the way that Donegal Town or Bundoran can.
The drive north from Dublin takes you through some of Ireland’s most varied countryside. You’ll pass through Monaghan, Cavan, and Donegal before reaching the Rosguill Peninsula. Once you cross into Donegal, the landscape changes quickly - the roads narrow, the bog opens out, and the light gets bigger. Your chauffeur will handle the navigation, including the final approach to Downings, which involves some single-track stretches on the peninsula road.
Pack for Donegal weather, not Dublin weather. The north Donegal coast is exposed to the full force of the Atlantic and can be several degrees cooler and considerably wetter than the capital, even in summer. A windproof layer is useful year-round, and good walking shoes will serve you better than anything fashionable on the coastal paths.
Downings beach is a Blue Flag strand with calm water on most days, though Atlantic swells pick up in autumn and winter. If you’re visiting for the beach, July and August give you the best odds of warm-enough conditions for swimming. Mariner’s Pub in the village is the local gathering point and worth knowing for your first evening.
