Dublin Private City Highlights and Suburbs Tour

About This Tour

Six hours in a private luxury vehicle with a guide who actually knows this city - that’s the shape of this tour. You’ll cover Dublin’s iconic landmarks, head out to the coastal suburbs, and end up somewhere you can sit down with a proper pint. It’s just your group the whole time, so there’s no fixed sprint through the itinerary. Your guide sets the pace and fills in the real stories behind what you’re passing.

It’s the kind of day that works whether you’re visiting for the first time or coming back for a deeper look - particularly if you want to get out beyond the city centre and see how Dubliners actually live.

Itinerary

The tour begins along Dublin’s coastal riviera - home to some well-known residents over the years, with coastal views worth stopping for (30 minutes). From there you’ll spend time in Phoenix Park, one of Europe’s largest enclosed city parks, full of open space and quieter corners well away from the main streets (30 minutes).

The next stop is a sacred site closely connected to the 1916 Rising - a place that shaped modern Ireland and one that carries real weight when you understand the context behind it (30 minutes). Then it’s on to the Guinness Storehouse for two hours. Note that tickets need to be pre-booked separately at €22 per person; this visit is usually self-guided, but your guide stays with you throughout.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral gets 30 minutes - a remarkable medieval church that’s been standing outside the old city walls for centuries. The day wraps up with 45 minutes in one of Dublin’s iconic pubs for a pint of Guinness.

Local Tips

Book the Guinness Storehouse tickets in advance before the tour date. They can sell out, particularly during summer and at weekends. Your guide will be with you there, but the entry tickets are your own to sort, and turning up without them means missing two hours of the day.

Phoenix Park is bigger than most people expect. At over 1,750 acres it’s one of the largest enclosed city parks in Europe, and it’s genuinely easy to forget you’re in a capital city once you’re inside. Keep an eye out for the fallow deer herd - they’ve been roaming the park since the 17th century and have a habit of appearing when you least expect them.

The coastal suburbs your guide takes you through on the riviera stretch are the kind of places Dubliners fantasise about living. Areas like Sandymount and Clontarf have long been home to writers, politicians, and anyone who wanted sea views without giving up the city. James Joyce set much of Ulysses along this stretch of coast, which your guide will likely mention.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is worth the entrance fee. It holds the grave of Jonathan Swift, who was Dean there from 1713 to 1745, and the interior has more historical layers than you’d expect from the outside. The cathedral sits just outside the old medieval city walls, which is why it was built where it is - a detail that makes more sense once you’ve seen the surrounding streets.

The pub at the end is as much a part of the experience as the landmarks. A good Dublin pub in the late afternoon, when the light is low and the place is filling up, is one of the city’s best things. Your guide usually has a spot in mind that’s local rather than touristy, so trust the recommendation.
