Getting between Dublin Airport and the city centre doesn’t have to be stressful or expensive. The express bus runs throughout the day with departures every 15 to 30 minutes, so even if you just miss one, the next is never far off. Whether you’re touching down on an early-morning flight or heading back after a long weekend, you won’t be hanging around.
The journey takes roughly 45 minutes, though traffic has its own ideas at rush hour. Your coach drops off at several central points along the route, including O’Connell Street, which puts you within easy walking distance of Temple Bar, Grafton Street, and most city centre hotels. Luggage racks are generous, so there’s no wrestling your case into a cramped overhead shelf.
For first-time visitors, the bus ride into town is a nice soft landing. You roll through the city’s main thoroughfares and get a flavour of Dublin before you’ve even put your bag down. And compared to a taxi, which can run anywhere from EUR30 to EUR50 depending on traffic and time of day, this is the sensible call.
Budget extra time for the airport run. Dublin traffic can be unpredictable, especially on the M1 corridor during morning or evening rush hours. If your flight is before 10am or after 4pm on a weekday, add 20 to 30 minutes to the usual journey estimate. Missing a flight to save on a taxi is a false economy.
O’Connell Street is more central than it looks on the map. Once you’re dropped here, you’re genuinely close to a lot. The Luas tram stop for the red line is steps away, the DART coastal rail line is a short walk to Connolly Station, and Dublin Bus routes fan out from the quays nearby. You won’t need another taxi to reach most city centre hotels.
The bus runs overnight too. If your flight lands late, you’re still covered. Later services run less frequently but they do run, which is worth knowing if you’re working out whether to pre-book a transfer or just wing it at arrivals.
Terminal 2 is generally faster to board from. Both terminals are served, but T2 tends to have a dedicated stop position that’s slightly easier to find on arrival. Either way, follow the signs for “City Centre Bus” rather than “Coach Park” - they’re different areas.
Keep your confirmation handy at boarding. You don’t need to print anything - showing the booking on your phone is fine. Just have it ready before you get to the driver rather than searching for it in the queue.
