Dublin: Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour

About

The DoDublin hop-on hop-off bus is the most flexible way to cover the city. Pick a 24-hour or 48-hour ticket, climb onto the open-top double-decker, and jump on and off as many times as you like at over 30 stops. The full loop takes roughly 90 minutes if you stay on, but the real value comes from using it as your own transport between attractions - getting you across parts of the city that are too far apart to walk comfortably.

The stops include all the big names: Trinity College, the Guinness Storehouse, Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin Castle, St Patrick’s Cathedral, the Jameson Distillery, Phoenix Park, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, and Christ Church Cathedral, among many others. A live guide keeps the commentary going with local stories, Dublin wit, and practical tips about what’s worth your time at each stop.

Your ticket also includes a complimentary walking tour and free entry to the Little Museum of Dublin on St Stephen’s Green - a charming small museum that tells the story of the city through donated objects and photographs. For families, one child under 15 travels free with each paying adult. If you’re planning to visit several attractions spread across different parts of the city, it’s genuinely good value.

Good to Know

The main departure point is on O’Connell Street at DoDublin HQ, with buses running frequently throughout the day. You can board at any stop along the route - not just the main one. The open-top deck is great in good weather but exposed in rain, so sit downstairs if the skies turn. The 48-hour option is worth it if you’re spending more than one full day sightseeing. Commentary is live rather than recorded, so it varies slightly by guide - most are excellent Dublin storytellers.

Local Tips

Map out your priority stops the night before. The route covers a huge amount of ground, and it’s easy to spend too long at the first few stops and run out of steam before you reach the ones you actually most wanted to see. Kilmainham Gaol and Phoenix Park are at the western end of the route, and a lot of first-timers don’t make it out that far - plan for them early if they’re on your list.

The Little Museum of Dublin on St Stephen’s Green is a genuine highlight and it’s included in your ticket. Don’t breeze past it. It’s a small building but the collection is surprisingly rich - everyday objects, photographs, and memorabilia donated by Dublin families that paint a portrait of the city across the 20th century. Give it an hour.

Sit on the left side of the top deck going west from O’Connell Street. You’ll get better views of the Liffey as you cross it, and a clearer sightline to Christ Church Cathedral and the old city walls. It’s a small thing, but it makes the commentary click better when you can actually see what the guide is pointing at.

Live commentary means the experience depends on your guide. The vast majority are excellent - genuinely funny and well-informed about Dublin history. If you’re unlucky and get a quieter one, the route itself is still worth doing. You can always supplement with a quick search on any landmark you want more context on.
