Dublin Legends Road Ride

About This Tour

The Dublin Mountains are right on the city’s doorstep, and this private road ride is a proper way to get into them. Challenging climbs, fast descents, and panoramic views over Dublin and the Irish Sea - it’s the kind of ride that reminds you why cycling in Ireland is so good.

You meet your guide at the Ticknock Mountain Bike Trail - Dublin’s base for mountain cycling - where you’ll chat through the planned route over a complimentary barista coffee while your bike is fitted and sized. Your guide sets the pace based on your fitness and cycling experience, whether you’re after a leisure spin or a genuine training ride. There are rest stops and photo opportunities along the way.

The route passes through some remarkable landscapes. You might visit Johnny Fox’s - Ireland’s highest pub - and you’ll ride past the Hell Fire Club with its megalithic tombs dating back to 3500 BC, Upper and Lower Lough Bray, the Powerscourt Waterfall, and sections of the old military roads that once connected Dublin to Wicklow. Your guide covers the history of the landscape as you go.

This is a private tour for groups of 1 to 8 people.

Local Tips

Be honest about your fitness level before you book. The Dublin Mountains aren’t a gentle roll - some of the climbs are serious, and the descents demand confidence on the bike. Your guide can absolutely adapt the pace and route to suit you, but you need to arrive ready for real road cycling, not a casual spin around the park.

The coffee at the start is worth savouring. The barista coffee at Ticknock while you’re getting fitted is a lovely ritual before the ride, and it gives you a chance to properly chat with your guide about what you want from the day. Don’t rush it.

Dress for the mountain, not the city. The temperature at the top of the Dublin Mountains can be noticeably colder than down in the city, and the wind picks up quickly once you’re above the treeline. Bring a proper cycling base layer and a wind-resistant shell even if the morning looks warm from your hotel window.

The Hell Fire Club is genuinely atmospheric. Even if you’ve read about it before, riding past the ruins of the Hell Fire Club - sitting above the city with its long history of notoriety - is something that lands differently from the saddle of a bike. Your guide will have the full story.

Johnny Fox’s is a real pub, not a tourist prop. Listed as Ireland’s highest pub, it’s been around since 1798 and the food and drink are solid. If the route includes a stop here, it’s a proper local pub that happens to have a great view - worth taking your time over.
