At Dolans Warehouse · Dolan's Pub and Restaurant, 3-4 Dock Road, Courtbrack, Limerick, Co. Limerick
ALOK is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary stand-up comedy - a gender non-conforming, genre non-conforming performer who has sold out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and appeared at the Netflix is a Joke Festival. If your idea of a comedy night is wall-to-wall one-liners, this will be something else entirely. ALOK blends poetry, storytelling, and stand-up into a signature mixed-media style that takes on love, gender, and the general awkward choreography of being human. It is a crash course in belonging, delivered with wit and provocation in equal measure. Dolans Warehouse is one of the best rooms in Munster for this kind of thing - intimate enough to feel like you are in on it, big enough to buzz.
ALOK’s comedy work pulls from their background as a published poet and cultural commentator - books include “Beyond the Gender Binary” and “Your Wound, My Garden” - but the stage show is not a lecture. Their first comedy special, BIOLOGY!, was executive produced by Christopher Guest, and a docu-short on their life premiered at Sundance in 2024. Their live sets have toured more than 40 countries, so by the time they hit Dolans, the material is sharp and road-tested.
Expect a full evening of stand-up that deals in real subjects - trauma, identity, the absurdity of everyday life - but handled with levity rather than heaviness. Special guest Allie O’Rourke is also on the bill, making this a proper two-act comedy night rather than a quick headline set. Doors are typically before the advertised show time, so arrive with time to settle.
Limerick city is well connected. From Dublin, the M7 motorway brings you directly in - roughly two hours. From Cork, it is the M20 or N20, about ninety minutes. Bus Eireann and Expressway run regular services into Limerick Bus Station on Parnell Street, a short walk or taxi ride from Dolans. The venue is on Dock Road, close to the junction with Alphonsus Street, on the southern bank of the Shannon. Street parking is available on surrounding roads in the evening, and there are car parks within a short walk in the city centre.
Limerick sits on the Shannon and has more going on than most visitors expect - the Hunt Museum, King John’s Castle, and the medieval quarter are all walkable from the city core. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
