Anne Gildea - Further Adventures in Womaning comedy show poster

Anne Gildea brings her solo show “Further Adventures in Womaning” to Belltable in Limerick on 12 September 2026. Gildea is one of Ireland’s most distinctive stand-up voices - a founder of the legendary musical-comedy trio The Nualas, with a career stretching back to the London comedy circuit of the late 1980s. This show is the follow-up to her acclaimed “How to Get the Menopause and Enjoy It,” which toured for three years to packed houses. If that earlier show was appointment comedy for women of a certain age, this one throws the net wider - a sharp, warm, unflinching trawl through what it means to be a woman in Ireland across the past half century.

What to expect

The show weaves through five decades of womanhood with a comedian who clearly relishes the absurdity of it all. Gildea moves from the era of 18-hour girdles and Housewives of the Year competitions to ripped influencer grannies on Instagram, from Angel Delight and the Sunday drive to the spa break. It is autobiographical in spirit but universal in reach - the kind of comedy where you laugh at something and then realise it happened to you too. The show is now in its second year of touring and has been consistently well reviewed. Audiences at earlier dates have described it as genuinely funny rather than the slightly laboured “women’s comedy” label might suggest. Expect storytelling with proper jokes, not just observations with a shrug.

Belltable is a 220-seat theatre on O’Connell Street and one of Ireland’s oldest regional arts centres, founded in 1989. It is an intimate, comfortable room - good sightlines, good acoustics, no bad seats. The box office number is 061 953400.

Getting there

Limerick city centre is well served by road and rail. By car from Dublin, take the M7 motorway to Limerick - the journey is around two hours. From Cork, the N20 northward takes roughly an hour and a quarter. Belltable is on O’Connell Street, the main street running through the city centre, so it is easy to find. Parking is available at the Watch House Cross and Arthurs Quay car parks, both a short walk away.

By rail, Colbert Station on Parnell Street is about a ten-minute walk from Belltable. Regular intercity services run from Dublin Heuston (roughly two hours) and Cork (around one hour forty minutes). Bus Eireann also serves Limerick from most major towns.

While you’re in Limerick

Limerick has good restaurants and pubs within easy reach of Belltable, making it straightforward to eat before or have a drink after the show without going far. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
