Annie - Grand Opera House Belfast

At Grand Opera House · Great Victoria Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim

Grand Opera House Belfast

What to Expect

Annie, the Tony Award-winning musical, plays the Grand Opera House from 27 to 31 October 2026 with Claire Sweeney as the villainous Miss Hannigan. Set in 1930s New York, it follows the orphan Annie as she endures life at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage before being chosen to spend Christmas with the wealthy industrialist Oliver Warbucks, only for Miss Hannigan to scheme against her search for her real family. The score includes “It’s the Hard-Knock Life,” “Easy Street” and “Tomorrow,” and the show is aimed squarely at family audiences, running around two and a half hours with an interval.

Claire Sweeney, well known from television as much as musical theatre, gives the role of Miss Hannigan a broad comic edge that tends to be a highlight of touring productions of Annie, playing well against the sentimentality of the Annie and Warbucks storyline. With performances timed at 2:00pm and 7:00pm rather than the more usual 2:30pm and 7:30pm slots used elsewhere in the autumn season, it is worth double-checking the exact time before travelling. The half-term timing over the last week of October makes this one of the more obviously child-friendly dates in the Opera House’s autumn programme, alongside the pantomime season that follows later in the year.
