Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story - Lyric Theatre Belfast

At Lyric Theatre · 55 Ridgeway Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim

Lyric Theatre Belfast

What to Expect

Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story comes to the Lyric Theatre for two nights, 2 and 3 October 2026. Written and performed by Linus Karp, who plays Diana, the show imagines the late Princess of Wales in heaven, looking back on her extraordinary life, told through drag, multimedia, puppetry and plenty of audience interaction. It began life at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023, where it became a cult hit for its camp, irreverent take on the royal family, and has since toured internationally, winning an OffFest Award for Best Play along the way. This is a comic, knowingly “untrue” version of the story rather than a biographical drama, and it leans hard into audience participation, so expect a livelier, more interactive night than a conventional play.

The show has built a reputation on the fringe and small-venue circuit as one of the more talked-about drag comedies of the last few years, moving from Edinburgh through London runs to international touring dates, and its two-night Belfast stop brings that same cult following to the Lyric’s programme. Because so much of the show relies on the audience joining in, seating close to the stage tends to shape the experience more than in a conventional seated drama, and it is worth arriving in good time given the venue’s compact studio-style layout for visiting productions like this one.
