Film Devour Short Film Festival 37 - The Black Box Belfast

What to Expect

Film Devour has been giving Belfast’s emerging filmmakers a proper cinema screen and a room full of strangers to watch their work for years now, and the 37th edition lands at The Black Box on 28 August. The format stays the same each time - a curated run of short films, all under fifteen minutes, drawn from local writers, directors and actors, some working with real budgets and crews and others making a first attempt with whatever they had to hand. The common thread is that everything shown is regional and raw rather than polished festival-circuit fare.

Through the evening the audience and the participating directors vote on two prizes, the Audience Choice Award and the Directors Choice Award, which keeps the room engaged between films rather than sitting through a passive screening. It is as much a networking night for people working in Northern Ireland’s small but active film scene as it is a public screening, and past editions have doubled as informal meet-ups for local crews looking for their next project. The event is 18+ and tickets cost £7.

Getting There

The Black Box is on Hill Street in the Cathedral Quarter, a five to ten minute walk from Belfast city centre and close to both Great Victoria Street and Belfast Central stations. The Cathedral Quarter is well served by evening buses and has several public car parks nearby, including on Talbot Street and Church Street.
