Andre Rieu Summer 2026: Viva Maastricht! at ODEON Cavan

At ODEON Cavan · Main Street, Cavan, Co. Cavan

Andre Rieu Viva Maastricht concert film ODEON Cavan August 2026

André Rieu has been packing out the Vrijthof square in Maastricht every summer for two decades, and in 2026 he marks that milestone with a brand-new concert filmed live at the same iconic venue. Rather than travelling to the Netherlands, you can take in the full spectacle at ODEON Cavan on Saturday 8 August 2026, as part of a global cinema screening event. It is a good fit for anyone who loves classical and light orchestral music, fans of operatic voices, or simply a big-screen evening out with a different kind of energy to a standard film.

What to expect

The concert is titled “Viva Maastricht!” in recognition of the 20th anniversary of Rieu’s beloved outdoor shows on the Vrijthof. Rieu performs alongside his Johann Strauss Orchestra - a full ensemble that has always been the backbone of his live productions - plus a lineup of soloists and guest artists said to be appearing on the Vrijthof stage for the first time. The programme draws on the repertoire he is known for: Viennese waltzes, operatic set pieces, and a handful of well-loved popular tunes woven in to keep the atmosphere relaxed and celebratory. Cinema screenings of this kind are mixed events in a good way - the audience tends to be warm and demonstrative, and nobody raises an eyebrow if you hum along. The sound quality through a cinema system does justice to a full orchestra in a way a television broadcast cannot match.

Getting there

Cavan town sits at roughly the midpoint of the north midlands and is an easy drive from much of Ulster and Leinster. From Dublin the N3 takes you there in about 90 minutes depending on traffic; from Enniskillen the A509 and N87 make it a similar distance. Bus Éireann operates regular services between Dublin Busáras and Cavan bus station, which is a short walk from the town centre. ODEON Cavan is on Main Street in the town centre with a multi-storey car park directly beside the cinema, and Blue Badge spaces are available in the car park. Cavan is a compact town and the cinema is reachable on foot from most of the central car parks.

While you’re in Cavan

Cavan town has a low-key, genuine character that rewards a bit of time on foot - the cathedral is worth a look, and the county is one of the more underrated lake landscapes in Ireland. There is more to see in Cavan and across Co. Cavan.
