Fleadh Tasting: Irish Beer and Irish Cheese

At Indie Fude (Ormeau) · 232 Ormeau Road, Belfast, Co. Antrim, BT7 2FZ

Craft beer and artisan cheese laid out for a tasting event

What to Expect

Indie Fude’s Ormeau Road food hall hosts a guided beer and cheese tasting timed to coincide with Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann week in Belfast, when the city is host to the national Irish traditional music festival and thousands of visitors are in town for the competitions and street sessions. The two-hour session pairs beers from north coast producer Heaney Brewery with artisan cheeses from Dart Mountain Cheese, a County Derry maker whose cheeses have picked up multiple awards, with staff talking guests through each pairing and the story behind how the beer and cheese were made. It is a relaxed, educational format rather than a formal dinner, run in Indie Fude’s Ormeau shop and event space, and gives visitors in Belfast for Fleadh a chance to sit down and taste two of the north of Ireland’s better-known small producers side by side rather than just sampling in passing at a festival stall. Indie Fude runs food and drink tasting nights of this kind regularly through the year, usually built around a particular producer, region or theme, so this Fleadh-timed session is one of a rolling programme rather than a one-off, and gives a good sense of the kind of producer-led evenings the shop runs across the rest of the year.
