Antrim and Newtownabbey Community Development Committee Meeting

At Mossley Mill · Carnmoney Road North, Newtownabbey, Co. Antrim, BT36 5QA

Mossley Mill council offices

What to Expect

The Community Development Committee of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council meets monthly, typically on the second Monday of the month at 6.30pm, in the Chamber at Mossley Mill, Newtownabbey. The committee is one of the council’s main decision-making bodies and covers community planning, leisure services, culture, sport, parks and open spaces, and social and wellbeing programmes delivered across the borough, from Antrim town through Newtownabbey to Randalstown and the wider rural district. Councillors receive officer reports on live projects, budgets and grant schemes, question council staff, and vote on recommendations that then go forward to full council for ratification. Members of the public are welcome to sit in the public gallery for the duration of the meeting, and residents with a specific interest in an agenda item can usually request in advance to address the committee directly through the council’s democratic services team, though this needs to be arranged ahead of the meeting date rather than on the night. Community and voluntary groups across the borough often follow this committee closely, since it handles the council’s community grant funding decisions and oversees facilities used daily by residents, from leisure centres and community centres to parks and play areas, meaning its decisions have a direct, visible impact on services in towns and villages right across Antrim and Newtownabbey.
