Antrim and Newtownabbey Economic Development Committee Meeting

At Mossley Mill · Carnmoney Road North, Newtownabbey, Co. Antrim, BT36 5QA

Mossley Mill council offices

What to Expect

The Economic Development Committee of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council meets monthly, typically on the second Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm, in the Chamber at Mossley Mill. The committee’s remit covers inward investment, town centre regeneration, skills and employability programmes, tourism development, business support grants, and the council’s wider economic strategy for the borough, which takes in Antrim town, Newtownabbey, Randalstown and the surrounding rural area. Officers present progress reports on live schemes and funding applications, and councillors debate and vote on recommendations before they proceed to full council. Local businesses, community groups and residents affected by a specific item on the agenda are able to follow proceedings from the public gallery, and can contact democratic services in advance if they wish to raise a matter connected with a scheduled agenda item. The committee’s decisions have a direct bearing on how the borough spends its economic development budget, including support for town centre traders in Antrim and Newtownabbey, tourism marketing for sites like Antrim Castle Gardens, and funding bids to central government and other external bodies, so its meetings are often followed closely by local traders’ associations and business groups as well as residents.
