Blayney Film at Iontas, the town’s community film club, screens Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value at Iontas Theatre on Wednesday, 9 September 2026. The Norwegian drama won Best International Feature Film at the 2026 Oscars, and the screening is run in partnership with Access Cinema, the network that brings recent festival and awards titles to venues outside Ireland’s main cities.
The film follows Gustav Borg, a film director who returns to his family home in Oslo for the funeral of the ex-wife he left decades earlier, and is drawn back into the lives of the two daughters he also left behind. One daughter has not forgotten the abandonment; the other is an actress Borg hopes to cast in his new film, a project that may be more personal than it first appears. Running 133 minutes and released in 2025, the drama traces the family’s history back to the mother’s wartime past, layering old wounds with the awkward business of trying to reconnect decades later. Standard tickets are sold on the door and online, and Blayney Film also offers a season membership for regular attenders who come to more than one screening.
Iontas is in Conabury, on the edge of Castleblayney town centre, with parking on site and level access throughout the building.
