What to Expect

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Planning Committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 10.30am in the Council Chamber at Cloonavin, Coleraine. The committee considers planning applications and development proposals across the borough, which spans the north Antrim towns of Ballycastle, Ballymoney and Portrush as well as Coleraine and Limavady on the Derry side of the boundary. Members review officer recommendations on individual applications, hear from objectors and applicants where a request to speak has been registered in advance, and vote on whether to approve, refuse or defer each case. Given the borough’s mix of coastal tourism sites, farmland and small towns, the committee regularly balances competing interests between development pressure and protection of the area’s built and natural heritage, including sites close to the Giant’s Causeway World Heritage Site and other protected landscapes along the coast, which means its decisions are watched closely by both residents and the local tourism sector.

Getting There

Cloonavin Civic Headquarters is on the Portstewart Road in Coleraine, on the northern edge of County Antrim near the Causeway Coast. The town is served by Translink bus and rail services from Belfast and Ballymena, with on-site visitor parking available at Cloonavin.
