What to Expect

Born in 1847 in the small village of Carron, County Clare, Michael Cusack went on to co-found the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1884, one of the most significant cultural organisations in Irish history. The visitor centre in his restored birthplace tells the full story from his Famine-era childhood in this simple three-roomed thatched cottage through to the foundation of the GAA and its impact on Irish national identity. Guided tours are available daily from 10am and include an audio-visual presentation.

Getting There

Carron is in the heart of the Burren, signposted from Corofin, Kilfenora and Ballyvaughan. The centre is approx. 35km north of Ennis. No regular bus service to Carron; car recommended.
