Bundoran Kids Surf Camps

At Tullan Strand and Rossnowlagh Beach · Bundoran, Co. Donegal

Children in wetsuits learning to surf at a Donegal beach

Bundoran is one of Ireland’s most celebrated surf towns, and Bundoran Surf Co has been putting children on boards here for years. Their weekly summer kids surf camps run every Monday to Friday through the school holidays, giving children aged 8 to 16 a proper introduction to the Atlantic - not just a single lesson but a full week of learning, building confidence day by day. It suits complete beginners well, and children with a little prior experience will also find plenty to work on.

What to expect

Each morning session runs from 11am to 1pm across two beaches: Tullan Strand in Bundoran itself, and Rossnowlagh Beach a short distance south. Rossnowlagh is particularly good for younger or first-time surfers - the waves there are gentler and more forgiving, with natural shelter from the wind. Tullan Strand gives children a taste of a real surf beach as they progress.

All equipment is provided - soft-top surfboards, wetsuits, and safety gear - so children need only bring a towel and a swimsuit underneath their wetsuit. Instructors are fully qualified and the camp keeps group sizes small, which means real coaching rather than just being pointed at the water. Water safety sits alongside the surfing itself: kids learn to read beach flags, understand rips and currents, and build ocean awareness that stays with them beyond the week.

The week includes beach games and teamwork alongside the surfing, which keeps it social and fun even on days when the learning is tough. Previous families have praised the instructors as patient and encouraging with children who arrived nervous.

Getting there

Bundoran sits on the south Donegal coast, around 30 minutes by road from Donegal town and about an hour from Sligo. From Dublin the drive is roughly three hours via the N4 and N15. Bus Eireann serves Bundoran on routes from Sligo and Donegal town. Parking is available in the town centre and at both beach locations.

While you’re in Bundoran

A surf camp gives the whole family a reason to base themselves here for the week. The town has an amusement park, cliff walks, and plenty of places to eat. There is more to see in Bundoran and across Co. Donegal.
