At 3Olympia Theatre · 72 Dame Street, Dublin 2
Bluey’s Big Play brings the Heeler family off the screen and onto the stage of one of Dublin’s most loved theatres, in a brand-new story written by the show’s creator Joe Brumm. The plot is pure Bluey - Dad wants a quiet afternoon on the bean bag, and Bluey and Bingo have other ideas. If your children know every episode by heart, this is the kind of show that will genuinely astonish them. And for parents who have watched the series more times than they care to count, seeing those characters rendered as full-scale puppets in a proper theatrical space is something else entirely. The show runs 50 minutes with no interval, which is exactly the right length for small children.
The production comes from Windmill Theatre Co for BBC Studios, with puppetry at the centre of the storytelling. Bluey, Bingo, Bandit and Chilli all appear on stage, performed by a cast operating brilliantly made character puppets. The original music was composed by Joff Bush, who scored the TV series, so the sound is unmistakably right. Multiple performances run daily - 10am, 1pm and 4pm - across the run from 20 to 30 August 2026. There is a relaxed performance on Friday 21 August at 1pm, adapted for children with autism, sensory sensitivities or learning disabilities. An Irish Sign Language performance runs on Wednesday 26 August at 1pm. Audio description is available at every show via personal headset. The 3Olympia also provides free buggy parking (limited space, first come), booster seats with a refundable deposit, and baby-changing facilities on all levels.
The 3Olympia sits on Dame Street in Dublin city centre, a two-minute walk from Dame Street Luas stops and a short walk from Tara Street DART station. Dublin Bus serves Dame Street directly on several routes. If you are driving in, the nearest multi-storey car parks are on Drury Street and at the Christchurch area, though weekend traffic in the city centre can be heavy around school holidays - allow extra time. The theatre is at 72 Dame Street, Dublin 2, and has been a fixture on that street since 1879, so it is hard to miss.
Dublin city centre is a natural playground for a family day out around the show - Dublin Castle, Chester Beatty Library and St Stephen’s Green are all within easy walking distance. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
