Dublin Lawn Tennis Club Summer Tournament

At Dublin Lawn Tennis Club · Rathmines, Dublin 6, Co. Dublin

Dublin Lawn Tennis Club summer tournament

Summer tennis in Dublin has a long, serious tradition, and the Dublin Lawn Tennis Club Summer Tournament is one of the fixtures that keeps it that way. Held at the club’s courts in Rathmines, this is a proper competitive day out - singles and doubles draws across multiple ability categories, run under Tennis Ireland’s national competition framework. If you play regularly and want a structured test of your game, or if you simply enjoy watching competitive club tennis at close quarters, this is worth pencilling in for the 1st of July.

What to expect

The tournament runs singles and doubles competitions across a spread of ability levels, so it is not just a top-end elite event. Club players entering their first competitive tournament sit alongside more experienced competitors. The format follows standard knockout or round-robin draws depending on entry numbers, and play runs from 10am.

The venue is Dublin Lawn Tennis Club in Rathmines, one of the established clubs on the south Dublin tennis circuit. Courts there are grass, which is relatively rare in Irish club tennis and makes the summer timing deliberate - grass courts play beautifully in July conditions and reward flatter, more aggressive ball-striking. Spectators are welcome, and watching a competitive grass-court match from the sidelines on a warm Dublin afternoon is a straightforward pleasure.

Entry is €25 per event and the tournament is organised by Tennis Ireland, the national governing body. Check the Tennis Ireland tournament calendar at tennisireland.ie for entry deadlines and how to register, as draws close before the day.

Getting there

Rathmines is about 3km south of Dublin city centre, well served by Dublin Bus routes 14, 15, 15A, 15B and 83 from the city centre - most stop along Rathmines Road within a short walk of the club. The Luas is not direct to Rathmines, but the green line to Ranelagh or Cowtown puts you within a 15-minute walk.

If you are driving, Rathmines has on-street parking on the surrounding residential streets, though it can be busy on a summer Wednesday or weekend. A park-and-ride from further out, or driving to a Luas park-and-ride and taking the green line to Ranelagh, keeps the hassle down.

While you’re in Dublin

Rathmines itself has a good range of cafes and independent spots for food before or after, and it is an easy bus ride from the city centre if you want to make a day of it. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
