Fawlty Towers - Live on Stage

At Bord Gais Energy Theatre · Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2

Fawlty Towers live at Bord Gais Energy Theatre Dublin

Fifty years on from its first television broadcast, Fawlty Towers has been adapted for the stage by John Cleese himself - the same man who wrote it - and the result is a show that has already sold out a record-breaking West End season. The Dublin run lands at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre from 28 July to 1 August 2026, bringing Basil’s meltdowns, Sybil’s withering stare, Manuel’s spectacular confusion, and Polly’s long-suffering patience to a 2,111-seat venue that suits the scale of the occasion. If you grew up watching the original twelve episodes, this will feel both familiar and sharper than you expect live. If you haven’t seen it before, the physical comedy and the timing land even harder in a theatre.

What to expect

The stage production runs 2 hours and 20 minutes including one interval - long enough to feel like a proper event, not a sketch. The 18-strong cast is led by Danny Bayne as Basil, Joanne Clifton as Polly, and Paul Nicholas as the Major. The script draws on all twelve episodes of the original sitcom, so expect the rat, the Germans, and the pretentious food critic all to make an appearance at some point across the run.

Directed by Caroline Jay Ranger, the show came out of London with unanimous critical notices and sold every seat. The content notes are worth reading before you book: the production uses strobe lighting, flashing lights, smoke and haze. Children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, and under-3s are not admitted. Doors open an hour before each performance.

Getting there

The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre sits on Grand Canal Square in the Docklands, roughly a mile and a half from O’Connell Street. The quickest public transport option is the Luas Red Line - get off at Mayor Square - NCI and walk five minutes across the Samuel Beckett Bridge. Dublin Bus routes C1, C2, C3, C4, 56a and 77a all stop near Pearse Street or Grand Canal Dock. If you are driving, the Grand Canal Square car park on Chimney View off Pearse Street is the closest option, and pre-booking is advisable for weekend shows.

While you’re in Dublin

Grand Canal Dock has restaurants and bars along the waterfront worth a stop before or after the show, and the Docklands is an easy walk or Luas hop from the main city centre. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
