At Mutton Island Causeway · Mutton Island Causeway, Galway City, Co. Galway
The Croi Night Run is a charity 5k organised by Croi, the Galway-based heart and stroke charity, starting from the causeway out to Mutton Island on Galway’s western shoreline. For 2026 the run is scheduled for Friday 9 October, taking runners and walkers along one of Galway city’s most scenic stretches of coastline as the evening draws in. The event is one of Croi’s main annual fundraisers, with money raised going toward the charity’s work supporting people affected by heart disease and stroke across the west of Ireland, including its cardiac rehabilitation and community health programmes. It is designed to be accessible to a wide range of participants, from competitive runners to families walking the route together, with entry categories set out by age and student status.
Croi is one of the west of Ireland’s best-known health charities, running Ireland’s only dedicated heart and stroke centre, based in Galway, alongside a network of cardiac rehabilitation and prevention programmes across Connacht. Events like the Night Run make up a significant share of the charity’s annual fundraising, sitting alongside other Croi challenges such as its Swim with Heart initiative and its long-running Croi Corrib Charity Cycle. Because the run starts as daylight fades over Galway Bay, the causeway route has built a reputation among regular participants as one of the more atmospheric charity 5ks on the local calendar.
Mutton Island Causeway is reached via Grattan Road on Galway city’s Salthill-facing shoreline, a short walk or drive from the city centre. The causeway and surrounding promenade area have on-street parking nearby, and the route is close to the Salthill promenade for anyone combining the run with an evening out along the bay.
