Kingfisher Sports Camp at University of Galway

At Kingfisher Fitness Club at University of Galway · University of Galway, Galway City

Children participating in various sports and water activities at camp

A full month of structured sport and activity for children, run by the team at Kingfisher Fitness Club on the University of Galway campus. The Sports Camp runs every weekday from 1 July through to 2 August 2026, giving families a reliable childcare and activity option across the entire summer break. It suits primary-school-age kids of all abilities - the mix of team sport, water time, and creative sessions means there is a fit for the sporty child and the one who would rather be making something with their hands.

What to expect

Kingfisher has been running kids’ summer programmes in Galway for years and the format is well worn in. Each day runs from 10am to 2pm, with an optional movie session available from 2pm to 4pm for those who need a longer day. The activity line-up covers swimming, basketball, dodgeball, archery, badminton, indoor games, and arts and crafts - and the organisers promise a few surprises on top of that. No two days are the same, which matters when you have five weeks to fill. Camps are led by trained instructors in Kingfisher’s fully equipped sports and pool facilities, with the University of Galway campus providing space and security that parents can count on. Spaces fill up quickly each summer, so early booking is strongly advised.

Getting there

University of Galway sits on the western edge of Galway city, about a ten-minute walk from Eyre Square. By car, the campus is well signposted from the N59 and the N6; there is paid parking on campus. Bus Eireann and City Direct services run from the city centre to the university, and the route is manageable on foot or by bike from much of the city. If you are travelling from further afield, Galway is served by express coaches from Dublin (Citylink and Bus Eireann) with a journey time of around two hours from the capital.

While you’re in Galway

A day dropping off and collecting from camp is a good excuse to spend time in the city. The Latin Quarter, the Long Walk, and the Saturday market at St Nicholas’ Churchyard are all close by, and Salthill beach is a short drive west for an afternoon swim. There is more to see in Galway and across Co. Galway.
