Galway - All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship Semi-Final 2026

At Semple Stadium · Thurles, County Tipperary

All-Ireland camogie championship match

The All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship semi-final is one of the biggest days in the women’s Gaelic games calendar, and when Galway take to the field at Semple Stadium in Thurles on Saturday 25 July, the atmosphere will match the occasion. Galway have been consistent contenders at this level for years, regularly pushing into the closing weeks of the championship alongside the likes of Cork and Kilkenny. If you follow camogie, this is the grade of match you plan your summer around.

What to expect

Semple Stadium is GAA’s second-largest ground, with a capacity of around 45,000, but camogie semi-finals draw serious crowds rather than capacity crowds - which means you get all the atmosphere without the sardine experience of an All-Ireland hurling day. The pitch at Thurles is wide and fast, and the camogie semi-final format - two survivors from the group stage meeting two quarter-final qualifiers - means the four teams left in at this point have genuinely earned their place. Galway competed in Group 1 of the 2026 Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship alongside Cork, Waterford, and Tipperary. The winner of the 25 July semi-final advances to the All-Ireland final at Croke Park on Sunday 9 August.

Camogie at this level is fast, skilful and underrated by people who haven’t seen it live. If you’re bringing children or anyone new to Gaelic games, this is one of the better introductions - the pace and skill are immediately obvious, the crowd is engaged, and tickets are considerably more accessible than senior hurling or football.

Getting there

Thurles is in County Tipperary, roughly 90 minutes south-east of Galway by car via the M6 and M7/M8. It is also very well served by rail. Thurles railway station is a 10-minute walk from Semple Stadium, and Irish Rail runs additional services on major match days. From Dublin the journey is around 90 minutes by train. Street parking in the town fills quickly; arriving early or using park-and-walk from the town outskirts is the standard approach for match days.

While you’re in Galway

This match takes you to Tipperary rather than Galway city, but the fixture is a fine excuse to make a weekend of it - base yourself in Galway on the Friday night, head south for the match, and return for the evening. There is more to see in Galway and across Co. Galway.
