At The Garage Theatre · Monaghan Education Campus, Armagh Road, Monaghan, Co. Monaghan
The Garage Theatre’s G Pop Super Slayers Summer Drama Camp gives children aged 8 to 10 a proper week on stage - five mornings of performance, play and creative work in one of Ireland’s most respected regional theatre venues. The “G Pop Super Slayers” theme puts a pop-culture spin on classic drama camp energy, giving younger participants a fun hook to hang their storytelling on. It runs Monday to Friday, 10am to 1pm, leaving afternoons free for families. If you have a child who loves performing, dressing up, making people laugh, or just generally being the centre of attention, this is a well-structured place to put that energy.
The Garage Theatre has been running youth drama in Monaghan since the early 1990s, and its youth programme - Monaghan Youth Theatre - has 160 members aged 8 to 18 and is regarded as one of the best in Ireland. The summer camp feeds into that tradition, giving primary-school-aged children a first taste of stage work in a real theatre building. Over the five mornings, participants work on performance skills, character, voice and movement in a group setting. The G Pop Super Slayers theme suggests a lively, pop-influenced story or showreel format - the kind of thing children will want to perform bits of on the drive home. The venue itself has a 289-seat main auditorium and a 75-seat studio with a sprung floor, so there is proper space for young performers to move, not just a school hall.

Monaghan town is compact and has good coffee, a solid market on Saturdays, and the town’s castle remains and Rossmore Memorial are worth a look if you are waiting out the morning. The county is quiet in the best sense - lakes, drumlin roads, and a few decent walking routes within easy reach of town. There is more to see in Monaghan and across Co. Monaghan.
