At The Garage Theatre · Monaghan Education Campus, Armagh Road, Monaghan, Co. Monaghan
A week of drama, imagination and performance for young people aged 11 to 13, running across five mornings at the Garage Theatre in Monaghan town. The camp is themed around “Very Strange Things” - a deliberately open brief that gives participants room to explore unusual ideas, unexpected characters and theatrical storytelling. If your child has an interest in performing, or has never tried drama but is curious, this is the kind of low-pressure, high-energy setting where they are likely to find their footing quickly. By Friday afternoon they will have spent fifteen hours working with others in a proper professional theatre space.
The camp runs Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July, three hours each morning from 10am to 1pm. It is based at the Garage Theatre on the Monaghan Education Campus on the Armagh Road - a well-equipped venue with a state-of-the-art theatre, rehearsal room, dance floor and art studio. The Garage runs youth drama year-round through Monaghan Youth Theatre, which has junior, intermediate and senior strands for ages 8 to 18, so the staff are experienced with this age group. The “Very Strange Things” theme gives the week a creative through-line - expect movement, voice work, character building and scene work rather than just sitting around reading scripts. The cost is €75 for the full week. Booking is through the Garage Theatre box office online or by phone on 047 39777.
Monaghan town is on the N2, roughly an hour and fifteen minutes from Dublin and about 30 minutes from Armagh. If you are coming by car, the Garage Theatre has complimentary parking on site. Dropping children off at 10am and collecting at 1pm is straightforward - the campus is well signed from the main road.
Monaghan town has a good mix of independent cafes and spots to pass the three hours while a camp is on. The county also has some excellent walking routes and a few unexpected historical corners worth exploring between drop-off and pick-up. There is more to see in Monaghan and across Co. Monaghan.
