A Sunday night country dance with Gerry Guthrie is one of the more reliable good-time events on the Irish circuit. Guthrie is a Ballina-based singer who has been fronting his own five-piece touring band since 2010, building a loyal following across every county in Ireland and a strong name on the country scene in England and Scotland. He appeared on the Late Late Show in 2023, but his real home is the dancehall - and the Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan is exactly the kind of venue where he does his best work. If you enjoy proper country dancing, a live band, and a crowd that knows the words, this is a Sunday night well spent.
Guthrie’s sets draw on six studio albums and a run of radio hits - “The Lucky Horseshoe”, “The Boxer”, “New Moon Over My Shoulder” - alongside the kind of country standards that keep the floor moving. A country dance night like this follows a familiar and well-loved format: the band plays, people dance, and the room warms up quickly. The Four Seasons has hosted events like this for years; its main function spaces hold up to 400 people and the atmosphere tends to be relaxed and sociable. Doors and the bar are typically open well before the 9pm start. Dress is smart-casual - most people make a bit of an effort without going full formal.
