Halloween at Waterford Treasures

At Waterford Treasures Museums, Viking Triangle · Cathedral Square, Waterford City, Co. Waterford

Lantern-lit display inside a Waterford Treasures museum for Halloween

Waterford Treasures turns its cluster of Viking Triangle museums over to Halloween for a week, running from Saturday, 24 October to Friday, 30 October 2026. The programme runs daily from 2:00pm to 8:30pm and splits into family-friendly daytime activities and darker, ticketed evening tours for adults, spread across the Irish Wake Museum, the Medieval Museum and the wider museum campus around Cathedral Square.

What to expect

By day, the Irish Wake Museum leans into its subject matter for Halloween, introducing children to the historic Irish customs around Samhain and the dead centre of the old city, with hands-on activities that have previously included making traditional fiddle face masks used to ward off spirits, and simple divination games. By evening, the tone shifts for over-16s with Dark History Tours, a guided walk through the murkier corners of Waterford’s 1,000-plus years of history, taking in the vampires, ghosts and murderers that turn up in the city’s folklore, departing from the Medieval Museum. Exact daily sub-events and start times are confirmed closer to the date on the museums’ own booking pages.

Getting there

The Waterford Treasures museums sit within a few minutes’ walk of each other around Cathedral Square and The Mall, in central Waterford’s Viking Triangle. The city’s bus and rail stations are both a short walk away, and the area is easiest to reach and get around on foot.

While you’re in Waterford

A week of Halloween programming across three museums is a good reason to build in extra time around the Viking Triangle, whichever strand you come for. There is more to see and do in Waterford and across Co. Waterford.
