Pat Shortt & Faye Shortt - Shortt Stuff Live

At Wave Dingle Theatre · Wave Dingle, Dingle, Co. Kerry

Pat Shortt & Faye Shortt performing comedy

Pat Shortt is one of those comedians every Irish family seems to claim as their own - the man behind Father Ted’s Tom, a Kilkenny native who has been making Ireland laugh for three decades. For this summer run he joins his daughter Faye, a theatre-trained performer, for a sketch show that is a cut above the standard stand-up night. “Shortt Stuff Live” is built on absurd characters, quick-fire banter and the kind of social observation that feels like someone has been eavesdropping at your local GAA meeting. It suits anyone who enjoys proper character comedy - funny without needing to be edgy, sharp without being cruel.

What to expect

The show draws on the rich well of Irish small-town life - local politics, family feuds and the characters found in every parish. Pat brings the weathered veteran energy; Faye, who trained in theatre, brings physicality and timing that matches him step for step. The interplay between them is the point: this is not a solo hour with a support act, but a genuinely collaborative piece. Expect character sketches, some musical turns and plenty of moments that feel uncomfortably recognisable.

The venue is Wave Dingle Theatre on The Wood, just past Dingle Oceanworld Aquarium - a boutique performance space, intimate enough that the timing lands properly. Dingle in August draws visitors from all over Ireland and abroad, so book early; summer shows here tend to sell out.

Getting there

Dingle sits at the western end of the Dingle Peninsula, roughly an hour from Tralee and about 50 minutes from Killarney. The N86 runs directly into town from Tralee; from Killarney, the N72 to Castlemaine and on through Inch is the straightforward route. Public transport is limited, so most people drive. Parking is available along the quays and at the car park off the Mall - in August it fills up, so arriving 30 minutes early is sensible.

While you’re in Dingle

August is peak season in Dingle, with pubs, restaurants and the harbour all in full swing. A show at Wave fits naturally into an evening that starts with a meal along the quayside. There is more to see in Dingle and across Co. Kerry.
