What to Expect

Every Tuesday night, Dingle’s Phoenix Cinema swaps its usual mainstream schedule for “Art Film” night, a long-running tradition at one of Ireland’s few remaining independent, family-run cinemas. Tea and biscuits are served in the foyer from around 8:30pm before the film starts at 9pm, giving the evening a sociable, unhurried feel that regulars say is as much the draw as the film itself. The programme leans towards independent, foreign-language and festival titles rather than new blockbuster releases, and changes from week to week, so it rewards turning up without a fixed idea of what is showing. The cinema, on Dykegate Street in the centre of Dingle town, seats around 150 people and has kept its original single-screen character even after actor Cillian Murphy bought and reopened it in November 2024.

Getting There

Phoenix Cinema is on Dykegate Street in Dingle town centre, within easy walking distance of the pier and the main shopping streets. Dingle is reached by road from Tralee via the N86, and there is public and paid parking close to the town centre.
