Cinema Club at St John's Theatre, Listowel

At St John's Theatre and Arts Centre · The Square, Listowel, Co. Kerry

St John's Theatre and Arts Centre, Listowel

St John’s Theatre and Arts Centre, a converted 19th-century Gothic church on Listowel’s Georgian square, runs a Cinema Club on the second Tuesday of most months, bringing a carefully chosen international or Irish film to the town in partnership with Access Cinema Ireland. The club steps aside during July and August, so the next screening after the summer break falls on Tuesday, 8 September 2026.

What to expect

The Cinema Club focuses on acclaimed, independent and foreign-language cinema rather than new commercial releases, drawing on Access Cinema Ireland’s national touring programme, which supplies rural venues with titles that would not otherwise reach a town the size of Listowel. Past screenings at the venue have included “An Cailín Ciúin”, “Anatomy of a Fall”, “Kneecap” and “The Old Oak”, giving a sense of the mix of Irish-language, awards-season and social-realist films the club favours. Screenings are held in the theatre’s 150-seat auditorium, a flexible space that also hosts music, drama and literary events through the rest of the month, so the room itself has more character than a standard multiplex screen. The exact September title had not been announced at time of writing; St John’s posts the coming month’s film on its website and social channels a few weeks ahead.
