Killarney House and Gardens

At Killarney House and Gardens · Killarney National Park, Killarney, Co. Kerry

Killarney House at the edge of Killarney National Park

What to Expect

Killarney House sits at the edge of the town, folded into Killarney National Park, and its ground floor houses a free interactive exhibition covering the history of the house, the Kenmare estate that once owned it, and the wider landscape of the national park around it. It makes an easy, no-cost stop for anyone exploring the park on foot, distinct from the paid tours next door at Muckross House but telling a related chapter of the same big-estate history in the Killarney area. The gardens surrounding the house are open longer hours than the exhibition itself, so a visit can be built around a walk through the grounds even outside the house’s own opening days.

Good to Know

  • House open Thursday to Monday, 9:15am to 5:15pm, closed for lunch 1:00pm to 2:00pm, last exhibition entry 5:00pm
  • Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • Gardens open daily, 8:00am to 6:00pm, seasonal hours may vary
  • The interactive exhibition inside the house is free to enter
  • Park run takes place on Saturday mornings starting from the grounds
  • Contact the visitor centre on infokillarneyhouse@npws.gov.ie for group visits

Getting There

Killarney House and Gardens is within walking distance of Killarney town centre, at the entrance to Killarney National Park. Killarney’s train and bus station connects to Cork, Dublin and Tralee, and the gardens link directly into the park’s network of paths toward Ross Castle and the lakes.

While you’re in Killarney

The gardens sit right beside the National Park entrance, making this an easy add-on to a day that also takes in Ross Castle or Muckross House. There is more to see in Killarney and across Co. Kerry.
