JJ Kavanagh Junior F Hurling Championship Quarter-Finals

Club hurlers contest the Kilkenny Junior F Hurling Championship

Kilkenny’s junior hurling structure runs deep, and the JJ Kavanagh Junior F Hurling Championship is one of the lower grades that gives clubs with several adult teams a championship for players further down the panel. Quarter-finals are played on Sunday 9 August 2026, both throwing in at 6.30pm.

What to expect

James Stephens face Mooncoin in one quarter-final at Páirc Shéamuis Stíopháin, the club’s home ground in Kilkenny city, while Tullogher Rosbercon take on Mullinavat in the other at Tullogher. Junior F hurling is played with the same commitment as any other grade in the county, and clubs use it to give game time to squad players and to blood younger hurlers stepping up from underage ranks. Winners advance to the semi-final stage, continuing a knockout structure that will run through August and into September before a county final is played. Kilkenny GAA’s club structure means several junior grades, from A through to F, run in parallel each summer, so a club can have teams competing in multiple grades on the same weekend.

Getting there

Páirc Shéamuis Stíopháin is James Stephens GAA club’s grounds on the Hebron Road side of Kilkenny city, with parking on site. Tullogher is a small village in the south of the county, close to the Waterford border, with the pitch on the edge of the village.

While you’re in Kilkenny

A trip to Tullogher pairs well with a stop in nearby Inistioge or a drive along the River Barrow, while games at Páirc Shéamuis Stíopháin are a five-minute drive from Kilkenny city centre. There is more to see in Kilkenny and across Co. Kilkenny.
