St. Canice's Credit Union Senior Hurling League

The St. Canice’s Credit Union Senior Hurling League is the summer club competition that keeps Kilkenny’s top hurling clubs sharp between the county championship rounds. Sixteen clubs are split into Group A and Group B, playing each other across a series of weekend rounds at grounds throughout the county. Round 2 is played on the weekend of 7 to 9 August 2026, with six fixtures down for decision.

What to expect

Friday 7 August opens with Erin’s Own against Danesfort in Group B at Tullaroan, throw-in 7pm. Saturday 8 August brings three games: Clara meet Graigue Ballycallan in Group A at Gowran (3.30pm), Tullaroan face Dicksboro in Group B at Páirc Lachtain (5.30pm), and Mullinavat host Thomastown in Group A at Páirc na Seamróg (5.30pm). The round closes on Sunday 9 August with O’Loughlin Gaels against Shamrocks Ballyhale in Group B at Thomastown (1pm) and Bennettsbridge versus Glenmore in Group A at Inistioge (3pm). Standard is high across both groups, with senior players from Kilkenny’s inter-county panel regularly turning out for their clubs, so the hurling is fast and physical even at league stage. The league runs on a weekly basis through the summer months, with new rounds and fixtures published on kilkennygaa.ie as they are confirmed, so this round is one stop in an ongoing season rather than a single event.

Getting there

The fixtures are spread across club grounds in Tullaroan, Gowran, Dicksboro’s home ground on the Callan Road, Mullinavat, Thomastown and Inistioge, so check the specific venue for the match you plan to attend. Most grounds have on-site parking and are signposted from the nearest village or town centre.

While you’re in Kilkenny

A weekend of club hurling is a good excuse to combine a match with a visit to one of the towns hosting a game, several of which, like Thomastown and Inistioge, sit on the River Nore with good walks and pubs nearby. There is more to see in Kilkenny and across Co. Kilkenny.
