Back2Basics presents Pulse with DJ Pressure

At Set Theatre Kilkenny · Set Theatre, Kilkenny, Co. Kilkenny

DJ Pressure performs at Set Theatre Kilkenny

Back2Basics has been putting on old school electronic nights around Ireland for years, and their Pulse series brings that same energy to one of Kilkenny’s best music rooms. On Saturday 29 August 2026, DJ Pressure takes the decks at Set Theatre for a night rooted in classic dance floor sounds - the kind of set that rewards people who know their rave history as much as those who just want to move. If you like your electronic music with proper roots rather than algorithm-driven playlists, this is worth the trip.

What to expect

Set Theatre is a 380-capacity venue attached to Langtons Hotel on John Street, designed by David Collins Studio and opened in 2009. It has the feel of a serious music room - not a cavern, not a barn, but a space built for the act of actually listening and dancing. Two bars keep things moving, and there is a covered, heated outdoor courtyard if you need air. The sound is good and the floor gets involved.

Back2Basics runs the Pulse nights as a showcase for DJs with proper back catalogues. DJ Pressure fits that bill - expect sets drawing from house, techno, and old school dance, played at the kind of volume and pace that makes a Saturday night worth staying out for. Doors open at 9pm; like most Irish club nights, it tends to build through the hour that follows.

Getting there

Kilkenny sits about 1.5 hours south of Dublin on the M9, and around 50 minutes from Waterford City. The train from Dublin Heuston runs regularly and takes roughly 90 minutes; Irish Rail serves Kilkenny MacDonagh Station, which is a short walk from the city centre. Bus Eireann also connects Kilkenny to Dublin and Cork. Set Theatre is on John Street - about five minutes on foot from both the train station and the main bus stops. Street parking is available in the city, and there are several car parks within easy walking distance; check parking availability in advance on a busy August Saturday.

While you’re in Kilkenny

Kilkenny is one of the most compact and walkable medieval cities in Ireland, with the castle, the Black Abbey, and the Marble City’s famous pub strip all within a few minutes of Set Theatre. An August weekend here tends to be lively well before the doors open. There is more to see in Kilkenny and across Co. Kilkenny.
