At Bay View Hotel & Leisure Centre and venues around Killybegs · Killybegs, Co. Donegal
Killybegs Summer Festival turns Ireland’s biggest fishing port into a three-day street festival built around the town’s maritime identity. The centrepiece is the crowning of the “Queen of the Fleet,” a long-standing local tradition that ties the festival back to Killybegs’ working harbour, alongside a sailing regatta out on the bay. The programme leans hard into family entertainment: a Kids’ Fancy Dress Parade, face painting, bouncy castles, a pet show and the “Killybegs Fittest Family” competition run alongside more offbeat traditions specific to the town, including a Raft Race, a Wheelie Bin Race and a Strong Man Boat Pull. In the evenings, live music takes over, with Irish country, folk and rock acts booked across local venues, plus street performers and DJ sets keeping things going after dark. It is the kind of festival built by and for the town rather than aimed primarily at outside visitors, run by the volunteer Killybegs Festival and Events committee.
Dates: Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9, 2026, based around the Bay View Hotel & Leisure Centre and venues across Killybegs town. No admission price is published for the weekend; most of the street and family events are free to attend, with the boat pull, raft race and other competitions typically requiring participants to register on the day rather than book ahead. For entry details on any of the competitions, or to check the music line-up, contact the organising committee on +353 74 973 2346 or Killybegsfestivalandevents@gmail.com.
Killybegs sits on the N56 on Donegal Bay, about 20 minutes west of Donegal Town and roughly an hour from Letterkenny. The town’s working harbour, one of the largest fishing ports in Ireland, is the natural focal point for the festival’s maritime events, and the pier and harbourside are within easy walking distance of the main street. Parking in the town itself is limited during festival weekend, so arriving early on the Saturday and Sunday is worthwhile.
