Airfield Estate Summer Festival 2026

Airfield Estate’s Summer Festival turns one of Dublin’s most unusual green spaces into nine days of farm-to-fork food, live music, craft workshops and family activities. The estate itself - 38 acres of working farm and walled gardens sitting right inside the M50 - is the main attraction as much as the programme. It suits families with young children particularly well, but it also draws adults who want to spend a slow afternoon among properly tended gardens with good food nearby.

What to expect

Airfield Estate has been running seasonal festivals across its grounds for several years, and the summer edition draws on everything that makes the place distinctive: the working Jersey dairy herd, the organic kitchen garden, the walled ornamental beds, and Overends Kitchen, which cooks with produce grown on site. Expect a mix of hands-on workshops - think seed sowing, butter-making, wool spinning and similar farm crafts - alongside live music, food vendors and activities aimed squarely at children. Face painting, farmyard encounters, nature trails and egg collection are regular fixtures at estate events; BabyRave sessions and puppet shows have also appeared in past summer programming.

The heritage side of Airfield is worth factoring in too. Airfield House, the original home of the Overend sisters who bequeathed the estate to the public in 1974, is open for interactive tours covering the family’s history, their vintage car collection (including a 1927 Rolls Royce), and their philanthropic work. The gardens - designed with century-old redwoods, tropical borders, glasshouses and pollinator plantings - are at their best in summer.

Getting there

Airfield Estate sits on Overend Road in Dundrum, about 7 km south of Dublin city centre. The most convenient public transport option is the Luas Green Line to Balally - the estate is a short walk from the stop. Buses on the 14 and 15 routes also serve Dundrum from the city centre. Parking on site is limited, so public transport is genuinely the easier choice; Balally Luas car park is nearby if you do drive.

While you’re in Dundrum

Dundrum is well set up for a full day out - the Dundrum Town Centre is a five-minute walk if you need lunch or coffee outside the estate, and Marlay Park is close by for a walk before or after. There is more to see in Dundrum and across Co. Dublin.
