At Belltable · 69 O'Connell Street, Limerick, Co. Limerick
Halloween Screams brings Ireland’s all-island horror film competition to Belltable in Limerick on Saturday, 31 October 2026 at 7:30pm. Organised by Big Shots Limerick, the competition sees teams write, shoot and edit short horror films throughout October, with the finished entries screened before a live audience at Belltable on the night. Awards and cash prizes are given out to winners after the screening, judged partly on the reaction in the room.
The evening is built around back-to-back short film screenings from the competing teams, followed by an awards presentation. It is a livelier, more communal event than a standard film showing, closer to a screening-plus-ceremony format, and draws a mix of the filmmaking teams themselves, their supporters, and the wider public. The event is suitable for ages 16 and up given the horror content. Belltable’s 220-seat screen gives the screenings an intimate, cinema-going feel rather than the atmosphere of a multiplex. This is the latest edition of an event that has run in previous Octobers at the venue, timed each year to land on or around Halloween.
Belltable is at 69 O’Connell Street, in the centre of Limerick city. Bus Eireann services run along O’Connell Street from Limerick Bus Station nearby, and Limerick Colbert rail station is about a 15-minute walk away.
A late-October evening at Belltable pairs well with dinner beforehand on O’Connell Street or around Thomas Street. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
