At Croke Park · Jones Road, Dublin 3
Limerick take on Clare in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final at Croke Park on Sunday 5 July, throw-in at 4pm. This is one of the four biggest days in the inter-county hurling calendar - a last-four clash between two Munster rivals who know each other’s game inside out. If you follow Limerick hurling, or simply want to see championship hurling at its highest level, this is the match to be at.
Croke Park holds 82,300 people and a semi-final between two provincial powers fills it with noise from the first whistle. Limerick support will be out in force, the Treaty colours spread from the Cusack Stand to the Davin. Hill 16 is a standing terrace at one end - loud and passionate, but not the best spot with young children. Seated options in the Cusack, Hogan, and Davin Stands give a clear view of the full pitch and suit families well.
Hurling at this level is fast and physical. The sliotar travels at pace and possession changes in a split second. Give yourself time before throw-in to watch the warm-ups and let your eye adjust to the speed of play. The match is on RTE and TG4, but there is no substitute for being inside the ground when both sets of supporters are in full voice.
Croke Park is in Dublin - roughly 200km and two and a half hours from Limerick city via the M7 and M50. Traffic builds from lunchtime on match days, so leave early or plan to park further out and take Dublin Bus or Luas for the final stretch. Connolly DART station and Luas Cross City put you within 15 minutes’ walk of the ground. Bus Eireann and GoBus run match-day services from Limerick; check ahead and book your seat.
If you are making a day of it from outside the county, there is plenty to take in closer to home beforehand - King John’s Castle on the Shannon and the Hunt Museum are well worth the detour. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
